First photovoltaic projects in the United States in operation

PV farms in Brookfield and Brimfield connected to the grid in December

It’s about 9.5 miles (15 km) from Brookfield to Brimfield in Massachusetts, United States. The two towns share the same first: in late December 2021, W.E.B put its first two PV projects on U.S. soil with a total capacity of over 7.5 MWp into operation.

W.E.B had already completed the construction work on its largest PV project in Brookfield in 2020. Despite the high pace, the project was not scheduled to be put into operation before 2021, as the grid operator still had to complete construction for the medium voltage connection. The big moment had finally come on December 27, 2021: the project with a total capacity of 5 MWp fed its first kilowatt hour of clean electricity into the grid.

The first excavators arrived in Brimfield in mid-May 2021 to start working on the next PV farm. Once again, the machines ran at full speed, making it possible to connect the photovoltaic project of 2.56 MWp to the grid as early as December 29, 2021.

The completion of the two PV projects Brookfield and Brimfield marks the successful market entry of W.E.B in the U.S. in the field of photovoltaics. The renewable power plant portfolio of W.E.B in the United States will continue to grow in 2022: the North American W.E.B team is currently working on the wind farm Silver Maple, which will be put into operation by the end of the year.
