Storing energy is a vital component on the path towards a sustainable future. W.E.B is also active in this field and celebrated a great milestone in August: the company finally took a battery storage system with a capacity of 500 kWh into operation at Pfaffenschlag headquarters. The new system is able to either cover the entire power consumption or just the peaks in demand of W.E.B headquarters and its charging stations in Pfaffenschlag.
On sunny days, the photovoltaic power system on the grounds of W.E.B headquarters with a capacity of 200 kWp will feed the new battery storage. W.E.B may also use electricity from the power grid to charge the storage system. In other words, W.E.B is one step closer to the completion of its ambitious project of the future called “Lighthouse 2040”. As part of this project, W.E.B strives to demonstrate how the company of the future may become sustainable and independent in terms of electricity.
The new battery storage is based on LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) technology that is particularly safe due to its modular structure and automatic release feature for each individual module. The storage system comprises a total of 25 such modules with a storage capacity of 20 kWh.
