W.E.B production results September 2020

Late summer and hardly any wind in Europe – monthly production below target

The overall monthly production of 83,056 MWh remained below target in September.

“When Indian Summer is dying away and early fall has not set in yet – then it is the fifth season.” Kurt Tucholsky perfectly describes this short period of time when summer temperatures begin to intermingle with cooler air. The picture in your mind fits the past month of September quite well. When it comes to the generation of wind energy, however, the rather windless weather was everything but ideal – and that in all W.E.B production countries in Europe all at once. Austria, France, Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic remained below their respective long-term average in production. Fortunately, the situation was not the same in Canada and the United States, where Teddy – a hurricane with landfall in Nova Scotia – ensured outstanding production conditions. The results of both countries were accordingly much better than anticipated.

The beautiful fifth season blessed Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic with lots of sunshine, enabling the countries to generate excellent results in the PV segment. The Italian photovoltaic power plants of W.E.B could not keep up, though. All in all, the photovoltaic power segment missed its target by a hair’s breadth.

The hydroelectric power segment remained below target both in Austria and in Germany.
