Sale of the Imst power plant
12/2024 - Back to overview
In December 2024, W.E.B sold the Imst hydropower plant. The W.E.B Group is thus focusing on the strategic core areas of wind and photovoltaics.
The small hydropower plant was acquired in 2006. During this time, W.E.B's goal was to develop beyond its historical core business of wind energy. Roman Prager, member of the board - operations, explains the background: “At that time, hydropower plants were purchased and the first photovoltaic plants were installed. Afterwards, the expansion of wind energy picked up speed again, solar power became increasingly attractive and developed into a second pillar of W.E.B's business. As a result, we did not expand hydropower any further. Following the sale of the Eberbach hydropower plant the previous year, we are now strengthening our clear focus on wind and solar power.”
In the years 1905-1910, the company Jenny & Schindler built a system of four hydroelectric power stations on a diversion channel on the Pigerbach in Imst to supply their weaving and spinning mill with electricity. The system was divided into a main stage and three sub-stages. After the acquisition by WEB Windenergie AG in 2006, the lower three stages were merged via a new penstock, and a new lower stage was built at the location of stage IV as part of the revitalization. A fish ladder was also built at the weir to ensure ecological continuity. The power plant's annual production corresponds to the electricity requirements of around 1,500 households.
