The largest W.E.B wind farm is now in operation
07/2024 - Back to overview
July 12, 2024: on this day, the largest wind farm in the W.E.B portfolio was put into operation in Ariano, Italy. With a remarkable total capacity of 84 MW, the wind farm will supply clean energy to about 50,000 households. The wind farm is not only an extraordinary project for W.E.B standards but now ranks among the top ten wind power plants in all of Italy.
Following the success in the tender of 2020 and various planning changes, the time for the initial construction work on the Ariano Wind Farm finally arrived in January 2023. The wind farm is located in the town of Ariano Irpino in the Italian region of Campania, about 75 kilometres as the crow flies from the City of Naples in Southern Italy.
The Ariano Wind Farm impressively demonstrates the international development of W.E.B, which in the meantime is developing and operating wind and photovoltaic power plants in eight countries in Europe and North America. Ariano represents the second W.E.B wind farm in Italy, with a third one in Apricena scheduled to come on stream in the near future.
Florian Müller, Member of the W.E.B Management Board, emphasizes the significance of the project. “Ariano means we have entered a new dimension, featuring a capacity of 84 MW supplied by 20 wind turbines. This wind farm in Italy not only highlights the ongoing further development of W.E.B, but also the potential inherent in wind power.”
