W.E.B production results February 2020
03/2020 - Back to overview
Storm, storm, storm and storm:
four storm fronts enabled our production to achieve an all-time high in results
The overall monthly production of 181,655 MWh set a new record in corporate history. It surpassed the results of December 2019 by almost 31,000 MWh. This was even more impressive, considering that the month of February was two days shorter than last December.
The unusual series of storm fronts was caused by a band of high velocity winds that travelled from North America across the Atlantic to Europe. This weather phenomenon resulted in stormy weather conditions on almost a weekly basis. The low-pressure systems were bursting with energy when they reached Europe. While crossing the Atlantic, they absorbed more energy from the ocean, as the water was still heated up due to climate change. Thanks to the technically stable operation of the wind power plants, the W.E.B turbines harvested as much energy as possible from the winds. In Austria, Germany, France and the Czech Republic, the production results significantly exceeded the budgeted targets for the month. The plants in Italy were spared from the storms and did not perform as expected. The Canadian wind power plants generated more electricity than projected, while the wind conditions in the United States remained below average.
The month of February was rather warm and sunny in Austria, the Czech Republic and Italy, most of which concluded the month clearly above target in the photovoltaic power segment. Only Germany was not able to reach its production target.
The hydroelectric power segment delivered clearly positive results both in Austria and Germany.
