Heat wave in July – monthly production below target
The overall monthly production of 91,036 MWh remained clearly below the defined target.
The month of July was particularly hot. In fact, it as one of the hottest ever recorded, even in comparison to the average between 1991 and 2020. In Austria the number heat days was much higher than usual. This July offered a bit of everything: longer dry spells but also intense storms and lots of rain. The results for the wind power segment were rather inconsistent. Germany, Czechia and France benefitted from favorable wind conditions and boasted production results above average. The influence of the high-pressure system was too strong in Austria and Italy, which prevented these countries from reaching their targets. The power plants in Canada and the United States could not perform as expected either.
Needless to say, the photovoltaic power segment enjoyed all the sunshine of the high-pressure system. The PV plants in Austria, Germany and Czechia generated positive results. Partial system failures kept Italy on the negative side of production. With much cloudier weather in the United States, the wind power plants on the other side of the Atlantic could not keep up.
In the hydroelectric power segment, Austria and Germany remained below target.
